This is the first computer organization text aimed specifically at computer science students (as opposed to books which are for CS/EE/and Computer Engineering). It has a “topdown” approach meaning the author starts with the software or user aspects of the organization then explains how to make it work. This is versus “bottom-up,” wherein the student sees logic gates, circuits, etc., all of which are built up to user level.
